| RAYPLEX 2 mm Core Mat 1 yd | BuyNow |
Core Mat is a low-density, non-woven continuous-strand laminate bulk/print control mat containing 45% by volume of micro-balloons. Excellent wet-out and laminated density of 40 to 50 lb per cubic foot--about half of fiberglass laminated mat. The continuous-strand structure provides a dramatic increase of tensile strength. Finished laminates have excellent impact strength and greater flexural strength and stiffness than solid FRP. When used as a core material, it increases stiffness in thin laminates with minimal weight increase. Apart from the savings on material costs, core mat significantly reduces production time. The thickness of the core no longer has to be built up layer by layer. It can be simply built up in one application using 2mm grade. Core mat is easy to use. After the first layer of glass fibre is in place and thoroughly wetted out and consolidated, apply the core mat straight down dry, push into place, then wet out thoroughly with more resin. After about 30 seconds the binder on the core mat will break and can be rolled and formed into shape. Pieces of core mat are to be butt jointed so as not to form any ridges. A good test to ensure proper wetting out is to push your finger into laminate with light pressure. If the resin puddles around it you know enough resin has been applied.
